ST. LOUIS – Elina Arsov and Julia Pereira claimed the first American Midwest Conference weekly awards of the season on Monday after impressive individual outings over the weekend in Florida.
Arsov, a freshman from Nancy, France, made the first five appearances of her collegiate career and took Attacker of the Week with 3.2 kills per set and eight service aces. Additionally, she added 46 digs in 18 sets and led the Spartans to a 3-2 victory over (RV) Dakota State University with 21 kills.
Sophomore Julia Pereira joined her teammate with her first career weekly award after being named the Defender of the Week. The libero from Minas Gerais, Brazil, anchored MBU defensively with 5.16 digs per set over five matches. In total, she tallied 98 digs in 19 sets and 35 in the win over (RV) Dakota State. She also helped the offense with 14 assists and a trio of service aces.
The 22nd-ranked Spartans play in the Carl & Deloris Petty SRC for the first time in 2024 on Wednesday, Aug. 21, in a 3 p.m. meeting with No. 13 Oklahoma Wesleyan University.
