THREE SPARTANS FINISH IN TOP THREE IN SIOUX CITY

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Missouri Baptist had three wrestlers finish in the top three at the Briar Cliff Open on Saturday, continuing a season of strong performances.

MBU's Chris Padilla started things off at 133lbs with a loss, but found nothing but success after this point. The senior rattled-off a fantastic six-consecutive wins to take third place overall.

MBU's A.J. Carter-Johnson's day was quite similar. Competing at 174lbs, Johnson lost his first bout, but came back in a big way. The sophomore won five consecutive matches before dropping the last one of the day in the third-place match to take home fourth.

Weston Keleher also lost his final match, but finished in second overall at 184lbs. Keleher was the top-ranked wrestler at 184lbs and won his first three matches before getting upset by Andrew Anthofer of local Morningside College by a narrow 4-3 decision.

In the heavyweight class, two Spartans were defeated by a familiar face. Former Spartan wrestler Joe Kent wrestled unaffiliated and beat Luis Contreras in the Semifinals and Julius Anglikas in the finals to take the crown.

The Spartans will hit the mat at home in their next competition when Missouri Baptist welcomes McKendree University to the Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex.
