ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist men's wrestling went down 0-18 before picking-up its first points of the dual against McKendree University on Friday in a 33-6 loss at home.
This was the final home dual for the Spartans of the season and the outcome was not quite what the home team had in mind. Luis Contreras battled through two overtime periods, but lost to McKendree's Ross Janney with riding time in a 2-1 decision favoring the Bearcats.
McKendree won its next three matches (125, 133 and 141) all by decision to build a 12-0 lead. Two forfeits on the horizon made the hole even deeper as MBU needed big point totals to get back into the match.
The Spartans took just two matches from the Bearcats on the night. Espen Conley won his bout at 157lbs by 10-5 decision over Frank Ruiz. Weston Keleher, currently ranked No. 6 in the NAIA, also won his match, a 3-1 decision over Andrew Krawulski.
MBU will head out to North Carolina next weekend to compete in the NAIA East Regional before it's final test, the NAIA National Championships at the beginning of March.
