ROMAN FINISHES THIRD AS MBU SEASON COMES TO A CLOSE

ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist University completed the NAIA wrestling national championships with one All-American as Gabe Roman won each of his matches on Saturday.

Roman finished an impressive weekend with a third-place finish in the 125lb weight class. After competition ended on Friday, the senior needed three consecutive wins in order to take home third. Roman did just that and began with a win over Midland's Aspen Kmiec by an 8-4 decision.

Roman collected a dominant 11-2 major decision over Aaron La Farge of MSU-Northern to head to the finals against Kidd Gomez of Oklahoma City University. Gomez may be familiar to several Spartan fans. He defeated Detorious Prayther back on January 16 at MBU with a 21-8 major decision. Roman evened the score for his team on Saturday.

Roman battled in his match against Gomez and took home a 17-10 decision along with third-place overall in the 125lb class.

This was the only wrestler who competed for Missouri Baptist today and the team currently sits in 19thplace. The Spartans will return home with one All-American this season.
