ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist Beach Volleyball stuck to the script on Tuesday in the season finale against Principia (Ill.). The Spartans grabbed four of the five courts on the day and won 4-1 for the fifth time in 2017 against the Panthers.
Missouri Baptist took three quick wins at No. 3-5 early thanks to lights' out play on the courts of Wave Taco in downtown St. Louis. Natalie Hecht and Amanda Thibodeaux claimed the win at No. 5 as they rattled-off point after point. After a quick 21-12 win, the duo posted the court-clinching 21-7 win in the second set.
At No. 4, Kelly Wilson and Kelly Hughes controlled the first set and never looked back. Team Kelly grabbed a quick 21-11 win before finishing things off with a 21-16 victory.
Sarah Bolton and Marija Tosic also claimed a big win at No. 3. The squad made a statement in the first set with a 21-7 victory before winning it in the second set with a 21-14 finish.
All eyes, however, we on the Spartan No. 1 court as Hannah Carey and Jen Brendel played for their last time in a Spartan uniform. The Panthers countered with a very good team of Noelle Shoemake and Emily Tippette. After a decisive first set win for the Spartans, 21-8, the Panthers battled back with a 21-16. Set three, however, was all Missouri Baptist as the Spartans finished things with a 15-4 win.
The Panthers claimed their lone win at No. 2 as Emilie Fredriken and Nikki Matters handed Cate Cigarini and Kamden Maas a 21-18 and 21-15 sweep.
In exhibition action, Kristen Williams and Megan Williams won 2-1 with a 21-15, 17-21, and 15-6 victory. Molly Fox and Audree Morecraft also won in a straight set 21-12, 21-14 decision.
It was the final game of the season for the Spartans as the team celebrated senior day for Hannah Carey and Jen Brendel.
