SPARTANS SWEEP WEBSTER, PUSH STREAK TO FIVE
CREVE COEUR, Mo. – The Missouri Baptist University women's tennis team earned its third straight shutout by defeating Webster University, 9-0, early Friday morning at the Creve Coeur Racquet Club. The Spartans are now 6-2 on the year.
Emily Brown and
Hannah Chaney recorded the first point of the day with an 8-0 sweep of Webster's Jess Steffens-Willis and Adri Ventimiglia at No. 3 doubles. The Spartans took a 3-0 advantage into the singles competition thanks to wins by
Tamara Klimek &
Krista Tyson (No. 1) and
Dani Stevenson &
Thais Castiglioni (No. 2).
Freshman
Geena Novelly got in on the action defeating her WU opponent at No. 6 singles by a score of 6-0, 6-1.
Tamara Klimek was the next to finish and helped clinch the team win for the Spartans with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Monica Behrle. Other matches that finished rather quickly included
Krista Tyson's win at No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-2) and Cheyene Anderson's win at No. 5 singles (6-0, 6-3).
The final matchups were closely contested, but the sweep remained intact. MBU's
Emily Brown topped Sara Rice, 7-6 (7-3), 6-0, while
Rafaela Davide downed Steffens-Willis, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 10-6.
