Krista Tyson was promoted to head coach for Missouri Baptist men's and women's tennis teams on July 10, 2019.
Tyson, a 2018 MBU alumnus, will take over as head coach after serving as graduate assistant coach for Cole Stevenson in 2018-19. Other coaching experience on Tyson’s resume includes serving as a youth and adult tennis instructor in Florida and locally at Forest Hills Country Club in Ballwin, Mo.
As a student-athlete, Tyson transferred from Florida State College of Jacksonville to Missouri Baptist in 2015-16. With three years of eligibility remaining, Tyson made the most of her time in a Spartan uniform.
The Jacksonville, Fla. native capped off her MBU career in 2018 with multiple all-conference honors including All-AMC First Team, AMC/Heart Second Team Singles and AMC/Heart First Team Doubles. More impressively was the fact that Tyson had arguably her most successful season after recovering from a 2016-17 ACL tear. An MBU Timeline feature detailing Tyson’s amazing bounce back from injury, which was written by teammate Dani Stevenson, can be found here –

As a senior, she was MBU’s representative on the 2018 AMC Women’s Tennis Champions of Character Team and was a key contributor academically on the women’s tennis squad that was named the 2017-18 NAIA Scholar Team of the Year, an award given to the highest team GPA across all NAIA institutions and championship sports.
In her first season with the Spartans, Tyson was an all-conference selection at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles.
Prior to MBU, Tyson spent one season playing for Florida State College of Jacksonville earning a second-place finish in the 2015 State Finals for singles and doubles, while the team placed fourth at the 2015 national tournament.
Tyson graduated in 2018 from Missouri Baptist University with her Bachelor of Arts in English.
