SPARTANS BATTLE TOUGH, FALL TO NO. 3 WILLIAMS BAPTIST

ST. LOUIS – [RESULTS] Missouri Baptist Men's Wrestling put up a respectable effort against the No. 3 ranked team in the NAIA Tuesday night. The Spartans fell to Williams Baptist 36-6 but pieced together several strong matches.

Johnathan Bobeen got MBU off to a good start. The senior won by an 8-4 decision over Pierre Dowling to push the Spartans to an early 3-0 lead. The Eagles, who remained undefeated with the win, won by tech fall 15-0 at 133 and via forfeit at 141 to grab their first lead 11-3.

Bryce Bachowski and Clayton Wegener then put together a strong showing at 149 and 157. Bachowski wrestled the No. 10 ranked wrestler in the 149 weight class and fell in a back-and-forth battle by decision, 6-5. Wegener followed with a 4-2 decision win over Nick Hooper to pull the Spartans within eight at 14-6.

The home Eagles would win out, but several Spartans proved tough outs. Ryan Thomas gave Keion McVay all he could handle at 174 before falling by decision 4-3. Esteban Rua put up a tough fight at 197 in his 4-1 decision loss.

The Spartans will compete this weekend at the Warrior Duals at Indiana Tech University. They'll face Indiana Tech, Lindsey Wilson, Marian and Davenport.
