ST. LOUIS—[BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist Men's Basketball continued a perfect start to the season with a 98-54 win over Lincoln Christian (Ill.) on Tuesday night.
For the second consecutive contest, MBU stormed out of the gates. They scored the game's first 10 points, capped off by a three from Fitzgerald Hopkins. The Spartans led by as many as 23 before going into the half ahead 47-27.
The second half proved more of the same as MBU kept their foot on the gas. Ahead by 22 with nine minutes, the Spartans finished the game on a 27-5 run.
Four Spartans reached double figures led by Hopkins and James McKelvin with 16 points apiece. Hopkins was 6-11 from the field (4-8 from beyond the arc) and added five assists.
MBU once again used a full bench and all 15 players found the stat sheet. 12 different Spartans pulled down at least one rebound, with junior Pablo Hernandez leading the way with 10 total (five offensive, five defensive). Hernandez also went 7-14 from the field for 15 points to record the Spartans' first double-double of the season.
The Spartans move to 2-0 on the season. They will head to Cape Girardeau, Mo. on Friday for a date with DI opponent Southeast Missouri State University. Tip is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
