The Spartans were in control from the opening tip as they never trailed and led for all but 18 seconds the entire night. MBU stormed out of the gates, hitting six of their first eight shots. The hot shooting spotted the visitors an 11-point lead after seven minutes in the first half.
The advantage would only increase as Missouri Baptist took a 47-32 lead into halftime. Johnny Benson (11 points), Jahmouri Robinson (10), and Karson King (9) led the way. The Spartans shot 50% (17-34) while holding the Vikings to 37% (10-27).
MBU cooled off slightly in the second half but not enough to let MVC back in the game. The lead grew to as many as 19 at 61-42. The Spartans forced 11 second half Viking turnovers on top of eight in the first half to stifle any chance of a comeback.
Five Spartans finished in double figures led by 17 points from Johnny Benson. Fitzgerald Hopkins kept pace with his season average, posting 15 points while also contributing a team-high nine assists.
Pablo Hernandez put up 13 points as did Karson King (career-high). Hernandez led the way with eight rebounds. Jahmouri Robinson scored 10 points and dished out five assists.
Missouri Baptist is now 10-1 overall with a 7-0 mark in non-conference play. The Spartans will play their final regular season non-conference game on Wednesday night when Culver-Stockton visits the Petty SRC. Tip is set for 7 pm.
