Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS – [GAME 1 BOX] [GAME 2 BOX] It didn't take long for Missouri Baptist to display the high-level offense that has helped vault the team to No. 10 in the nation. The Drew Kitson hit two out of the yard in game one as the Spartans swept Morthland (Ill.) 12-0 and 18-3.
Missouri Baptist (37-12, 24-6 AMC) grabbed the lead for good in game one thanks to the first home run of the day for Drew Kitson. The center fielder drove a pitch over the wall in left-center and made it a 2-0 game.
In the fourth, the Spartans plated two more as Aaron Collazo drove in a pair. The Spartan leadoff man recorded a pair of RBI on a fielder's choice to extend the lead to 4-0.
In the fifth, Kitson struck again and led a six-run outburst in the inning. The senior homered for the second time in the game, a solo shot, and made it 5-0. Collazo homered later in the inning and capped-off the fifth to make it a 10-0 game. The Spartans tacked-on two more in the game and took the first game 12-0.
The story of game two was told mainly in the first inning. Missouri Baptist dropped a 12-spot on the Patriots and never looked back in one of the most lopsided wins of the season for the Spartans.
Missouri Baptist was led by Angel Cruz and Culver Plant in the finale of the doubleheader. Cruz recorded a four hit day with two RBI. Plant, on the other hand, finished game two with two hits and three RBI.
Robby Brewster picked-up the win in game two while Aaron Pangilinan notched the victory in the first session.
With the wins, Missouri Baptist will enter the American Midwest Conference Championship Tournament as the No. 1 overall seed and will face No. 8 seed and tournament host, Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. in Henderson, Tenn.
