ESPORTS WEEKEND RECAP: OCT. 20

ST. LOUIS — It was a busy weekend for the Missouri Baptist University eSports team as both League of Legends and Fortnite got underway for the 2018-19 season.

League of Legends – Collegiate Star League (CSL)
For CSL League of Legends, the Spartans have already received their draws for the tournament and will square off with a different team each week. To kick things off, MBU faced Bentley University (Mass.) on Saturday (Oct. 20) and dropped the decision, 2-0. The Spartans will look to rebound this upcoming weekend when they take on University of Arizona.

League of Legends – American Video Game League (AVGL)
The League of Legends team also took part in a completely separate tournament over the weekend, this one sponsored by the American Video Game League. In all, the Spartan gamers played five matches in a single-game format finishing the day with a 3-2 overall record. The 3-2 finish was good enough for third place in their pool. Missouri Baptist took home wins against San Diego State University, Illinois College and Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), but came up short against McMaster University (Ontario) and St. Ambrose University (Iowa).

Fortnite – Collegiate Star League (CSL)
Like Rocket League, the Spartans entered new territory on Saturday playing in their first-ever competitive Fortnite match. The duo of Alex Breznenik and Ryan Green represented MBU in the CSL Qualifier match against St. Thomas Aquinas College (N.Y.) and was bested by the STAC Spartans, 2-0.
