CREVE COEUR, Mo. – Facing a battle-tested Baker University squad on Wednesday, the Missouri Baptist University women's tennis team recovered from a 2-1 deficit and outlasted the Baker Wildcats, 5-4. Despite the slim margin of victory, the Spartans kept their winning streak alive pushing it to seven. In fact, MBU's last loss came on March 10 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. when it faced then-No. 3 ranked Keiser University.

The No. 1 doubles team of Tamara Klimek and Krista Tyson got the ball rolling for the Spartans with an 8-5 win, however, the next two positions were unable to secure a point in the team standings falling to their Baker counterparts 8-5 and 8-4 at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively.

As she has done much of the season, Klimek overpowered her opponent Kate Taylor-Doran at No. 1 singles defeating her 6-2, 6-0. The Spartans also claimed a 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot thanks to Thais Castiglioni and a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles by way of Krista Tyson. The Wildcats kept things close by claiming individual wins at No. 4 and No. 6 leaving it up to the No. 5s – Emily Brown (MBU) and Morgan Francis (BU). Brown had no problems under pressure as she coasted to a 6-0, 6-1 victory and helped the Spartans clinch an impressive win over Baker, who had defeated a Hastings College team receiving votes in the Top 25 poll earlier in the season.

Winning seven consecutive matches has boosted MBU's overall record to 8-2. The Spartans will look for win No. 9 on Thursday when they host Missouri Valley College at Noon.
