CREVE COEUR, Mo. – The Missouri Baptist University women's tennis team continues to build momentum as it nears the postseason. On Thursday afternoon, the Spartans recorded their first victory over Missouri Valley College in program history by defeating the Vikings, 5-4.

At 9-2 overall, the MBU women have been victorious in eight straight contests and are just one win shy of a 10-win season.

As they have done all year, Tamara Klimek and Krista Tyson made things look easy at No. 1 doubles defeating Michele Bader and Nicole Staznicky of Missouri Valley, 8-2. The Spartans collected another crucial point in doubles as Thais Castiglioni and Rafaela Davide earned an 8-4 victory vs. Sarah Mohrlein/Anete Petersone.

In singles action, MBU needed just three wins to grab the team victory and the Vikings weren't going to back down without a fight. Missouri Valley won at Nos. 4, 5 and 6 singles meaning there was no room for error in the top flights for the Spartans. Krista Tyson picked up the straight-set victory over Lauryn Daxon at No. 3 singles, Tamara Klimek defeated Michele Bader, who was recently ranked in the ITA Central Region rankings, 6-2, 1-0 (ret.) at No. 1 singles and Thais Castiglioni was the deciding match at No. 2 singles as she beat Nicole Staznicky, 6-3, 6-1.

The Spartans take their eight-match winning streak to Henderson, Tenn. on Friday, where they will take on upstart tennis program Freed-Hardeman University, a member of the American Midwest Conference.
