Game Recap: Baseball |

OFFENSE RULES THE DAY AS SPARTANS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER

ST. LOUIS—[BOX GAME 1] [BOX GAME 2] Missouri Baptist Baseball's rollercoaster season continued on Friday afternoon after a split with AMC rival Harris-Stowe. The Spartans won game one 22-3 before falling 10-7 in a chippy game two.

Game one was a lopsided affair from the first pitch as the Spartans had an 11-1 lead after four innings. The Hornets did not do themselves any favors as they walked eight and hit three more before the fifth inning even rolled around.

It was in the fifth, however, that things really got out of hand. MBU sent 14 men to the plate and came away with 10 runs on five hits. Highlights of the frame included two-RBI singles from both Drew Brooks and Mason Washington. Wayne Roberts also doubled in a run.

With the support of a 20-run lead, Spartan starting pitcher Robby Brewster completed his day after six innings. He allowed three runs on six hits.

Both Mason Washington and Tyler Schmidt finished the game with five RBIs to lead MBU. Schmidt fell just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle.

As was to be expected, game two was a much closer affair. Harris-Stowe jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first before the Spartans fired back with three in the third. After an RBI single from Dillon Harp, Wayne Roberts made it 3-2 with his third home run of the year.

After a two-run fourth and a one-run fifth, the Spartans had a 6-2 lead and looked to be in good shape heading into the late innings. The Hornets weren't ready to concede just yet though. They scored three in bottom of the fifth to climb back in it and took the lead in the seventh on a two-RBI single.

Three more runs in the eighth inning would put the game out of reach. The Spartans scored one in the ninth but the comeback attempt ended there.

Missouri Baptist is now 22-15 overall and 14-7 in the AMC. The rubber game of the series with the Hornets is Saturday at 3 pm.
