Spartans Snag 9-0 Senior Day Win Over Fontbonne

RESULTS

CREVE COEUR, Mo. – Missouri Baptist University men's tennis celebrated Senior Day for three student-athletes – Ricardo Martin, James Tobin, Dylan Walker) – on Thursday with its first 9-0 victory of the season. The Spartans used a pair of straight-set victories, two points by default and several other intriguing matches to defeat Fontbonne University.
 
Seniors Dylan Walker and Ricardo Martin teamed up at No. 1 doubles to secure an 8-2 win. Lucas Lobao and James Wright won at No. 2 doubles, 8-1, while Colton Albers and Austin Hale earned the win at No. 3 by default.
 
In singles play, Don Kern and Hale coasted to straight-set wins against each of their opponents. At No. 5 singles, Albers played to eight and defeated Fontbonne's Jacob Lendy, 8-4. Walker was slotted into the No. 1 spot on Senior Day and took down Griffins' Sebastian Culton, 6-2, 6-3. In the longest match of the day, Ricardo Martin made things interesting wining the first set 6-3, before falling behind in Set 2, 5-0. With the second frame in jeopardy, Martin stormed back from the large deficit and won seven straight games to win 6-3, 7-5.
 
The Spartans have a tough test ahead on Friday as they play two matches in a day, the first against the NAIA's sixth-ranked team, William Woods University. They finish off the day with another American Midwest Conference in an away match at St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
