PLAYOFF PUSH HEATS UP AS SPARTANS AND PIRATES SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER

ST. LOUIS – [GAME ONE] [GAME TWO] The Spartans split the first two games of a huge AMC series against Park University. Robby Brewster pitched Missouri Baptist to a 6-1 victory in game one and Park answered with a 9-4 win in game two.

MBU got off to a running start in the first inning on a Drew Brooks RBI triple that plated Wayne Roberts. Brooks scored later in the inning on Mason Washington's sacrifice fly to put the Spartans up 2-0.

Park struck back in the bottom of the first with a run, their only one of the game.

Tyler Schmidt tripled home a run in the bottom of the third to boost the lead to 3-1. Washington drove home another in the top of the fifth with a sacrifice fly.

The scoring concluded in the top of the seventh after Roosevelt Henderson's single that brought home a pair. The Spartans finished game one with a 6-1 victory over their AMC foe.

Washington and Henderson both drove in two runs, while Tommy Nawa quietly collected three hits. Brewster went the distance on Friday allowing four hits and one run while striking out six batters.

Game two did not go as smoothly for MBU. Schmidt drove in two runs in the first inning to give the visitors another early lead.

The Pirate offense woke up in the second putting up a three spot. They went on to score one in the third, one in the fourth, and four in the fifth.

More often than not the Spartan offense is strong enough to battle back, but they came up short in game two. MBU fell to Park 9-4 in the second game of the doubleheader.

Domonique Hernandez was a bright spot in game two as he collected three hits and picked up a total of five on Friday.

Missouri Baptist baseball wraps up the series against Park University on Saturday. The first pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. in Parkville, Missouri.
