CREVE COEUR, Mo. – Following a two-week hiatus, the Missouri Baptist University men's tennis team returned to action Friday (April 6) looking for a win against NCAA DIII Denison University, however, the Spartans dropped the match, 8-1.

MBU kept it competitive against NCAA DIII's 29th ranked team, particularly in doubles play. Lucas Lobao and Dylan Walker recorded the Spartans' lone point at No. 2 doubles, edging DU's Mitchell Thai and Jamie McDonald, 6-4. At the No. 1 spot, James Tobin and Ricardo Martin kept it close in a 6-4 loss, while Don Kern and James Wright fell in a 6-3 decision at No. 3 doubles.

Denison had the momentum heading into singles competition and didn't give way to the Spartans. Missouri Baptist came within a few games at No. 2 (Walker) and No. 3 singles (Lobao) but came up just short. DU's Mitchell Thai defeated Walker, 6-4, 6-2, while Jamie McDonald of DU squeaked by Lobao, 6-2, 7-6.

With the win, Denison improved to 7-3 on the season, while the loss moves the MBU men to 1-5. The Spartans are scheduled to travel to Belleville, Ill., on Tuesday, April 10 to take on AMC opponent Lindenwood University-Bellville at 1 p.m.
