SPARTANS GET BACK ON TRACK WITH WIN OVER OWLS

ST. LOUIS—[BOX SCORE] No. 3 Missouri Baptist men's basketball bounced back on Saturday afternoon with an 82-62 home victory over William Woods. The result increased the Spartans' lead at the top of the American Midwest Conference to three games.

After suffering their first defeat of the season on Thursday, MBU needed a quick rebound against the AMC's second place team. After a back and forth start, the Spartans began to exert their dominance with a 13-0 run halfway through the first half.

William Woods struggled to score in the opening period against the NAIA's top ranked field goal percentage defense. The Spartans contained the Owls to just a 21.9% clip (7-32) and held a 40-29 advantage at the break.

The home side would continue to push the lead after the intermission. Junior point guard Jahmouri Robinson led the way with 13 of his 19 points coming after halftime. The Spartans led by as many as 30 with 6:47 to go.

William Woods made a mini run but couldn't close the deficit to any less than 19. The Spartans improved to 10-0 on their home court with all 10 victories coming by double digits.

Five Spartans recorded double figures in points led by Robinson's 19 (7-9 FG). Kai Woodfall poured in 15 points on 5-9 from the field. After making just 6-22 from three-point range in Thursday's loss against Harris-Stowe, the Spartans knocked down 14-27 from the behind the arc on Saturday, just one off their season-high. Robinson was 5-7 from deep while Woodfall was 3-6.

Missouri Baptist now holds a three-game lead in the AMC but will face another stiff test on Tuesday night. Park University will visit the SRC for a game rescheduled from January 19. The Pirates are 10-4 in conference play and tied with William Woods for second place. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
