SPARTANS COMPLETE PERFECT TEXAS ROADTRIP

KILGORE, TEXAS – [BOX GAME ONE] [BOX GAME TWO] Missouri Baptist Baseball closed out a perfect road trip with a two-game sweep of Texas College on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans enjoyed comfortable 12-9 and 17-0 victories over the Steers to push their winning streak to six games.

After outscoring Jarvis Christian 32-6 in two games on Friday, the MBU offense picked up where it left off on Saturday. Nine Spartan hitters came to the plate in the opening inning, with five coming around to score. The first three runs were aided by a pair of errors by the Steers. Sid Kumar then put a bow on the frame with a two-run homer to left center field. It was Kumar's first as a Spartan and the team's first long ball of the season.

The Spartans added four more in the second inning. Drew Brooks laced an RBI double with one out and two batters later, Mason Washington joined in on the fun with a three-run homer to left center. It was 9-0 MBU after just an inning and a half.

Texas College would cut into the lead with a five-run fourth and a three-run seventh but in the end it wasn't enough. Missouri Baptist held on for a 12-9 win.

The second game of the day was more of the same for the Spartans. Again, the visitors stormed out of the gates with seven runs in the first inning. The highlight was a moonshot from shortstop DeShawn Lookout with two on and no one out to make it 3-0. The Steers once again did themselves no favors with errors leading to two of the Spartans' next four runs.

While the big bats were taking care of business on the offense for MBU, starter Josh Sieglitz had things under control on the mound in five dominant innings. The junior struck out 10 while allowing no runs and just two hits. Sieglitz earned the win in his first start as a Spartan.

With an 11-0 lead after two innings, and the game more or less in hand, Head Coach Eddie Uschold used most of his bench to finish the job. 14 different Spartans recorded at least one plate appearance. The final stat sheet was chockfull of gaudy numbers. The Navy and White registered 14 total hits, including five doubles and three home runs. The Spartans also drew 14 walks from the TC pitching staff.

Mo. Bap will now return home with an overall record of 6-2. Weather permitting, they'll play the home opener next weekend as part of the Clay Pfeiffer Memorial Tournament. Saint Xavier (Ill.) and Clarke University (Iowa) will visit the Spartan Baseball field for a pair of tripleheaders on Friday and Saturday. First pitch of the tournament is scheduled for 10 am on Friday between the Spartans and SXU. The full schedule can be found at https://mbuspartans.com/schedule.aspx?path=baseball.
