ST. LOUIS—MBU Baseball earned a doubleheader split with No. 15 Central Methodist at Spartan Field on Tuesday afternoon. Playing on their home field for the first time in 2019, Missouri Baptist won game one 6-5 before falling 6-3 in game two. Both games were seven-inning contests.
Â
CMU struck first in game one with a three-run first inning. The Spartans battled back with two runs in the third. After
Anthony Enwiya drew a bases loaded walk,
Greg Greene delivered a base hit to make it 3-2.
Â
MBU kept it going with three more runs in the fourth inning to take a one-run lead. The Central Methodist bullpen couldn't find the strike zone and the Spartans' patience at the plate helped them take advantage.
Michael McGhee and
Greg Greene each earned RBIs without swinging the bat. McGhee was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and, two batters later, Greene brought home another run with a walk.
Anthony Enwiya also came through with an RBI single to score
Mason Washington.
Â
After Washington added to the lead with an RBI double in the fifth, the Spartans turned it over to their bullpen to close out the final eight outs.
Jacob Rucker and
Manny Pizarro did just that to secure a 6-5 victory.
Â
The Eagles scored first again in game two and this time the deficit proved too much to overcome for Missouri Baptist. CMU led 3-0 in the fourth when MBU got on the board via an RBI single from
Gabriel Castillo.
Â
After Central Methodist tacked on two more in the fifth, the Spartans made one more push in the bottom half of the inning.
Caleb Dean doubled home
Greg Greene and
General McArthur. It wasn't enough though as the CMU bullpen made quick work of the final two innings.
Â
MBU is now 15-9 overall. Central Methodist is 17-5. The Spartans return to conference action on Friday on the road against Columbia. First pitch for the single nine-inning contest on Friday is scheduled for 6 pm.
