ASHLAND, Mo. – MBU Baseball continued its torrid offensive pace with a 14-5 win over William Woods on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans (10-5) completed the three-game sweep and evened their AMC record at 3-3.
Out of the gate in the opening inning, an RBI single from
Caleb Dean followed by a two-run double from
Sid Kumar gave the Spartans an early 3-0 lead. Dean and Kumar were the catalysts again in the third inning. The former drove in
DeShawn Lookout with another RBI single and the latter launched a two-run homer, his team-leading fourth of the year, to make it 7-0.
William Woods cut into the lead with two runs in the bottom of the frame but unfortunately for them,
Sid Kumar was due up again in the top of the fourth. This time, the West Windsor, N.J. native singled to score
Mason Washington. Kumar would come around two batters later on a base hit by
Michael McGhee. McGhee had a career day of his own, finishing 4-6 with a double and two RBIs.
MBU scored a run in both the sixth and seventh and then topped it off with three more in the eighth inning for a commanding nine-run lead. After
Josh Sieglitz made the start,
Tyler Baca and
Jacob Rucker combined for 3+ innings of perfect bullpen work to close it out.
AMC play resumes next weekend for the Spartans when Park University visits on Friday and Saturday. First pitch for the single nine-inning affair on Friday is scheduled for 2 pm.
