ST. LOUIS – Just one week after defeating Fontbonne University on the road, the Missouri Baptist University men's tennis team produced an identical 9-0 score against the Griffins in its home opener at the Creve Coeur Racquet Club on Tuesday afternoon.
The matches moved relatively quick with the Spartans sweeping the doubles competition to go up 3-0.
Lucas Lobao and
Rod Aguiar teamed up at No. 1 doubles to defeat Fontbonne's Sebastian Culton and Brandon Baumgartner, 8-0. The No. 2 doubles group of newcomers
Patrick Szymczak and
Hillary Ncube surrendered a game to the Griffins, but still cruised to an 8-1 win.
Seth Grady and
Don Kern paired up at the No. 3 spot and won 8-0.
In singles play,
Patrick Szymczak and
Lucas Lobao both lost a game in their opening sets, but finished off their Fontbonne opponents with 6-0 second sets. The rest of the Spartans' lineup won in straight sets including
Rod Aguiar at No. 3,
Don Kern at No. 4,
Hillary Ncube at No. 5 and
Seth Grady at No. 6.
The MBU men's tennis team returns to action next Tuesday as it welcomes American Midwest Conference (AMC) opponent St. Louis College of Pharmacy to the Creve Coeur Racquet Club.
