MBU OVERWHELMS HORNETS, PICKS UP EIGHTH SWEEP IN A ROW

ST. LOUIS – No. 8-ranked Missouri Baptist women's volleyball turned in another dominant performance Saturday en route to a 3-0 road win at Harris-Stowe State University. The Spartans secured their eighth sweep in a row with set wins of 25-11, 25-13 and 25-13.

Moving to 9-1 overall and 5-0 in the AMC, MoBap hit above .375 for the sixth time this season and continues to distance itself from the rest of the NAIA with the nation's top hitting percentage (.331). The next closest teams are Keiser University at .310 and Indiana University-Kokomo at .284.

Another facet to the Spartans' dominance on Saturday was at the service line. Heading into the match, MBU ranked sixth in the country in service aces per game (2.4) and easily exceeded that mark at the Emerson Performance Center with a season-high 14 service aces. Senior libero Ariana Macies led the way with five, while Shannon McLain and pitched in four and three, respectively.

After a rather slow start to each of the first two sets, Missouri Baptist settled in and put a stop to Harris-Stowe's quick points out of the gate. In fact, the Spartans stifled HSSU to the tune of a -.026 hitting percentage, the Hornets' second-lowest mark on the young season.

No one player on MBU's roster stole the limelight with seven players recording at least 4 kills on the day. The freshman tandem of Sara Klunder and Shannon McLain had a match-high six kills apiece, while Maria Hanusik, Emma Lattimore and Liz van Houwelingen combined for 13 kills and no errors.

The stage is now set for Missouri Baptist's final match of the fall at No. 18-ranked Columbia College on Thursday, Nov. 12. Both teams will enter the rivalry match with undefeated records in AMC play and will be vying for the lead position heading into the spring portion of the schedule.
