O'FALLON, Mo. – MBU Baseball (4-6) defeated William Woods 13-3 in eight innings on Thursday afternoon at CarShield Field in O'Fallon, Mo. The Spartans evened their AMC record at 2-2.
 
The Mo. Bap offense clicked into gear in the third inning on Thursday with a three-run frame. After scoring the first run of the game on a throwing error by Owls' pitcher Tristan Steffens, Trey Steffler delivered a single with the bases loaded to make it 2-0. Ashanti Ross later scored on a passed ball.
 
The Spartans added two more runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and four in the sixth. That was plenty of support for ace starting pitcher Josh Sieglitz. The senior allowed a two-run homer in the fifth and an RBI single in the sixth but was otherwise dominant. Sieglitz struck out six and walked just one.
 
Sieglitz knew his day was complete no matter what after eight innings but the Spartan offense decided their starter still deserved credit for a complete game. RBI singles by Trent Shelby, Adrian Gutierrez, and Vincent Napolitano made it 13-3 MBU and ended the game on the run-rule.
 
The Spartans finished the day with 13 runs on 14 hits and, for the first time this season, no errors. Luis Tajia and Sage Voda each went 3-4 with two RBIs.
 
Missouri Baptist will try for the series win in Friday's doubleheader. Matthew Hess will take mound in the first game of the day followed by Masen Palmier in the series finale. First pitch in O'Fallon is scheduled for 11 am.
