ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Missouri Baptist League of Legends team has now won seven straight matches in the Collegiate Star League after defeating Washington University and Southeast Missouri State over the weekend. Additionally, they took down the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and Missouri S&T in CLOL Group Stage matches.
League of Legends CSL Regular Season
Roster:
League of Legends (Collegiate Star League)
vs Washington University (W, 2-0)
The first match was an incredibly sloppy "Clown Fiesta" as it's known in the League of Legends community. Both teams were out for blood and were going back and forth with skirmishes all over the map, including a lot of team fights. MBU was able to pull out game one with better mechanical play. Game two was much more decisive as the Spartans took the match victory.
vs Southeast Missouri State (W, 2-0)
SEMO's great team play gave MBU problems throughout both games. They were well-coordinated and rotated around the map well. Luckily the Spartans drafted strong engage and team fighting for the mid and late stages of the game. Ultimately, the Spartans were able to find the right fights to win out.
League of Legends CLOL Group Stage
vs University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (W, 2-0)
The Spartans started their first match of CLOL strong with convincing wins against the talented UWL squad. In both games, MBU generated early leads by getting all four Rift Herald's and taking down towers quickly. They also maintained dragon control throughout and secured the victories after taking Dragon Soul.
vs Missouri S&T (L, 1-2)
All three games in this series were back and forth. The Spartans' best game came early on as they took game one with strong assassin play from
Ian Clark and
Evan Stoll on Ahri and Rengar. In game two, Missouri S&T greatly changed their strategy by picking Mordekaiser top who caused the Spartans several problems. After a few bad team fights, S&T took the second game. Game three started a disaster for Missouri Baptist as they got 3-0'd before level one. The Spartans were able to stall the game out for a while but ultimately couldn't hold off the Miners' onslaught.
The League of Legends team continues their season this Saturday against Park University in the Collegiate Star League. If they can win against the Pirates, they will make the CSL playoffs for the first time in school history.
