CONWAY, Ark. – Missouri Baptist Men's Basketball finished the 2019-20 season 15-14 after falling to Central Baptist College 98-83 in the AMC Quarterfinals on Wednesday night.
In a rematch of last season's AMC semifinals, the eighth seeded Spartans never led and only had the top-seeded Mustangs tied for 22 seconds. But despite CBC shooting 58.6% (17-29) from the field in the first half, MBU only trailed 45-40 after 20 minutes.
CBC kept its foot on the gas in the second half and slowly began to pull away. The Spartans didn't quit down the stretch but could never cut the deficit to less than 10 points. The home Mustangs continued to light it up from the field. They outdid their first half performance by shooting 59.1% (13-22) in the second half.
Three Spartans finished the night in double figures in points. In his final collegiate game,
Jahmouri Robinson posted 16 points to go along with three assists and three steals. Robinson finished his MBU career with 1034 points and 422 assists (an MBU record).
James McKelvin, another senior, scored 18 and pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Sophomore
Brendon Hardy went 8-16 from the field for 26 points. The Farmington, Mo. product is expected to be one of the Spartans' top returners next season.
With their first season now in the books, Head Coach
Preston Ingram and staff will continue to hit the recruiting trail with hopes of building a foundation for Missouri Baptist Basketball.
