SPARTANS DOMINATE THE PAINT IN WIN OVER CBC

ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist Men's Basketball stayed red hot on Saturday afternoon, defeating Central Baptist College 71-63 for its seventh straight win. At 7-0 in the AMC, MBU is alone at the top of the conference standings.

Missouri Baptist stormed out of the gates on Saturday, dominating the visiting Mustangs at both ends of the court. The Spartans scored the game's first 12 points while holding CBC off the scoreboard for nearly five minutes. It was 24-11 MBU at the midway point of the half.

The Spartans did not shoot it well from deep in the opening 20 minutes, so they turned to the inside game to score. MBU went 16-28 from the paint in the first half . Unbeaten this season when they hold a halftime lead (12-0), the Spartans once again had the advantage going into intermission (41-29).

CBC, the defending AMC tournament champions, came out for the second half like MBU did for the first. The visitors used a 12-2 run out of the locker room to cut the deficit to two points.

Mo. Bap weathered the storm and built the lead back up to double digits. Though the Mustangs made one more late run -- it wasn't enough. A 56-24 edge on points in the paint was ultimately more than enough for the Spartans to earn their 15th win on the season and 7th in the AMC.

Just as he was on Thursday night against UHSP, point guard Jadis White was a catalyst for the offense. The former Chaminade product racked up 16 points, six assists, and four rebounds. Only John Yaeger finished with more points for MBU (17). Yaeger pulled down six boards.

Senior Brendon Hardy finished with 11 points and, in the process, became the 20th player in Missouri Baptist Men's Basketball history to record 1,000 career points.

The Spartans will now have a week off to prepare for a visit from William Woods (11-9, 5-1 AMC) next Saturday. Tip time is scheduled for 3 pm. The Owls defeated Lyon on Saturday and sit in solo second place in the conference.
