SPARTAN WINNING STREAK ENDS IN ARKANSAS

CONWAY, Ark. – For the first time in more than two months, (RV) Missouri Baptist Men's Basketball lost a game on Saturday. The Spartans' 14-game winning streak and unbeaten run in the AMC came to an end with a 73-57 loss to Central Baptist College (13-13, 9-5 AMC).

After clinching the AMC Regular Season title outright on Thursday, the Spartans had their sights set on another goal on Saturday. Only one other team in the history of the AMC had gone undefeated in a conference regular season. But in a place where MBU Men's Basketball is just 2-7 all-time, the task was tall.

Points were hard to come by in the first half. At the midway point of opening period, the Spartans had just nine on the board. Defense kept it close though as they trailed by just seven.

The deficit persisted for the duration of the first half and through the first seven minutes of the second half. A fast break layup by Jadis White finally tied the game at 43 with 13:20 to go. Brendon Hardy drained a three on the next possession to give the Spartans their first lead.

From that point forward, however, it was all Mustangs. CBC went on an 18-3 run to put the Spartans in a deep hole. MBU went more than nine minutes without a field goal before a three from Hardy finally ended the drought with 2:05 on the clock.

Hardy and John Yaeger were the only two Spartans in double figures. Yaeger's 13 points to go along with seven rebounds led the team.

After totaling nine threes against UHSP on Thursday and 10 on Tuesday against Williams Baptist, the Spartan shooting from beyond the arc came back down to earth on Saturday. MBU finished just 4-19 from deep.

Despite the loss, the Spartans' overall record still stands at 22-5 to go along with the 14-1 AMC mark. They'll complete the regular season next Thursday in Fulton, Mo. against William Woods (16-12, 10-4 AMC) before hosting the AMC Quarterfinals on February 24 at the Petty SRC.
