Spartans Go for Gold at Warrior Open

Fort Wayne, Ind.- Missouri Baptist women's wrestling spent their weekend facing off against top teams at the (10) Indiana Tech Warrior duals on Friday (Jan. 27) and taking on the Warrior Open on Saturday (Jan. 28).

Warrior Duals
(RV) Lourdes University was their first match up of the dual, which they defeated 32-18. Reese Compton was the first to wrestle at 123-pounds and earned a win by decision 14-8. Eunique Davis, in the 136-pound weight class, secured the Spartans first fall of the dual with a pin at 5:19. Anastasia Hardin wrapped things up with a tech fall victory in the 155-pound weight class, 10-0.

The next match against (RV) Siena Heights University started off with Riley White at 116-pounds winning by decision 6-2. Next up was Compton who was able to defeat her opponent by tech fall, 15-3. Eunique Davis, in similar fashion, finished her opponent off by tech fall, 11-0. Hardin secured the last win for the Spartan and was able to quickly finish off her opponent, securing the win with a pin at 1:11. The Spartans were able to defeat Siena Heights, 21-12.

The final match up of the dual for the Spartans was against the hosts, Indiana Tech. The Spartans did not fare as well against the Warriors as they did their other opponents, losing to the No. 10-ranked school, 48-9. One of the two wins that the Spartans had during the match came from Davis, who pulled and upset and defeated No. 16- ranked Charmayne Delong in the 130-pound weight class. Anastasia Hardin had the other win of the match with a tech fall victory over No. 17-ranked Grace Doering.

Warrior Open
Alyssa Quezaire, who has been one of the top performers for the Spartans this season, took first place in the 101-pound weight class. All three matches that she won on her way to earning gold, she did so by pinning her opponents, two of which were ranked. In the semi-final round she defeated No. 13- ranked Sydney Kutzke and in the finals took on No. 5- ranked Makayla Young whom she defeated by fall in under 30 seconds.

Juliana Diaz, who has been another stand out freshman, secured tech fall win after tech fall win on her way to the finals for the 116-pound weight class. Her first three matches of the competition were won by fall. In the finals the junior was able to obtain gold with a win by decision over her opponent, Alexis Lazar.

Josette Partney, the last of the Spartans to earn first, wrestled in the 143-pound weight class. Throughout the entire tournament, the sophomore did not let a single opponent score on her. Partney won her first match by decision 8-0, her second against No. 19- ranked Maia Crumb by tech fall 10-0, and the semifinals by decision 4-0. In the final round Partney was able to defeat No. 9-ranked Samantha Snow with Indiana Tech by tech fall 11-0.
Taryn Johnson and Anastasia Harding were our silver medalists. Johnson was able to make her way to the final round where she ultimately fell to No. 9-ranked, Andrea Hernandez with Indiana Tech. Hardin faced a similar fate where she fell to No. 4-ranked, Kenya Sloan with Campbellsville.

Women's wrestling has their last hurrah at home with duals against William Jewel, Lindenwood, and Aurora on Feb. 1, starting at 6 PM.
