MBU Coed Cheer Places First at NCA Nationals

Daytona, Fla.- Missouri Baptist University Coed Cheerleading wins the National Cheerleading Association's National title for the first time in program history. The Spartans haven't seen the NCA mat since 2017 and improved their overall ranking by 15 places. The NCA competition splits up their scoring between the two performances that account for an average of 25% the first and 75% the second.

Day 1, the Spartans finished in first place with an overall score of 89.2 that accounted for a 1.25 deduction for a building fall (minus .75) and two bobbles (minus .25 each).

Going into day 2, Coed Cheer mirrored a score of 89.2 with another 1.25 deduction for the same building fall and bobbles. Missouri Baptist took the title of Advanced Small Coed NAIA NCA National Champions.  Coed beat out Ottawa Arizona, (No. 35, NAIA) Ottawa Kansas, and Central Methodist University.

Winning on day 2 earned Mobap a spot in the Grand Championship, where all divisions compete against each other. Today we competed against with the top-ranking teams in nationals including Trinity Valley Community College, Lindenwood University, and Weber State. On day three the Spartans scored an 88.2 and received 6th in the Small Advanced Coed category.

"This is the first time MBU has been on the NCA stage since 2017, were we competed Small Intermediate Coed NAIA and placed 15th. This is the first time ever MBU has produced an advanced level routine at NCA and the first national championship for the program. We also were the smallest team competing.

I am so proud of the hard work this team has done on and off the mat this season, especially with the additional challenge of my maternity leave. We could not have done it without our amazing assistant coach, Jacie, and the support of our Director of Spirit, Ciara" – Head Coach of Coed Cheerleading, Andrea Robb
