MBU Athletics Announces 2024 Hall of Fame Class

ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist University Athletics announced the 2024 Hall of Fame class on Wednesday afternoon. There will be six new members added to the Spartan Hall of Fame including former Director of Athletics Tom Smith, Chris Naegel, Ally Krus, Ian Brosch, Kyle Foley, and Orlando Olivera.
 
"We are excited to introduce the 2024 Hall of Fame class, a distinguished group of individuals whose incredible accomplishments have shaped our department's history," said MBU Director of Athletics Jeff Fore. "Their dedication and spirit exemplify what it means to be a Spartan, and we look forward to honoring their remarkable legacies as they inspire future generations."
 
Dr. Tom Smith – Meritorious Service
Dr. Tom Smith served as the Director of Athletics for 20 years at Missouri Baptist University. Under Smith's direction, MBU won four NAIA national championships: women's indoor and outdoor track & Field (2006), and women's volleyball (2020-21, 2021), two NAIA national invitational titles in men's volleyball (2015, 2016), an NCA Advanced Small Coed Cheer Championship (2023), and numerous individual champions in track & field and wrestling.
 
He was recognized twice by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics as an Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year (2012-13, 2019-20) and five times as the American Midwest Conference AD of the Year (2004-05, 2009-10, 2012-13, 2018-19, 2022-23). He infused more than 400 additional student-athletes on MBU's campus by creating 18 new athletic programs at the varsity and junior varsity levels.
 
Smith was also instrumental in forming the Spartan Athletics Hall of Fame and is a member of the Parkway School District Hall of Fame (2014) and Missouri Sports Hall of Fame (2023).
 
Chris Naegel – Men's Golf
Chris Naegel set the MBU men's golf record for tournament wins in a single season (4) in 2005-06 on his way to being named an NAIA All-American. He turned pro in 2008 and joined the Korn Ferry Tour in 2015.
 
The Chesterfield, Mo., native has played in 95 events with two top-five finishes and five top-10s. Naegel has also played in 12 PGA Tour events, including three U.S. Opens, and made the cut in five of the 12.
 
Ally Krus – Women's Volleyball
Ally Krus was a four-time NAIA All-American as a member of the MBU women's volleyball team from 2012-2015. She was also a four-time selection to the All-AMC first team, a two-time AMC Setter of the Year, and the 2012 AMC Freshman of the Year.
 
In her four seasons, the Spartans went 138-22 overall, including three appearances in the NAIA national tournament. In addition, Krus is the program's all-time leader in assists by nearly 2,000.
 
Ian Brosch – Men's Lacrosse
Ian Brosch is the MBU record holder for most goals (51), ground balls (123), ground balls/game (7.69), points (62), and face-off wins in a single season and holds the most points in a single game (12 – 7 G, 5 A).
 
The St. Louis native is an MCLA All-Decade Team Honorable Mention, a three-time MCLA All-American Face-off Specialist (2011 – 1st, 2012 – 2nd, 2013 – 1st), a four-time All-Great Rivers Lacrosse Conference First Team Face-off Specialist, and held the MCLA record at the time for career face-off wins (598) and ground balls (382). He was additionally the captain for the Spartans for two seasons and went on to play as a semi-professional box lacrosse player for St. Louis Centurions and Missouri Mastodons.
 
Brosch is currently a member of the St. Louis Samurai Lacrosse Club coaching staff and co-founder of the Jefferson County Lacrosse Association.
 
Kyle Foley – Men's Volleyball
Kyle Foley is a three-time NAIA Men's Volleyball National Player of the Year (2016, 2017, 2018) and was an AVCA-NAIA All-American in all four years with Missouri Baptist. He helped lead MBU to the second NAIA National Invitational championship in 2016 and finished his four-year career at MBU as the all-time leader in assists (4,722) and service aces (267).
 
After his time in college, Foley spent time playing professionally overseas in Finland, the Netherlands, Montenegro, and Italy. He additionally signed with the Nash-Villians professional team of the Volleyball League of America (VLA) and was named to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch All-Decade Boys Volleyball First Team in 2023.
 
Orlando Olivera – Baseball
Orlando Olivera is the MBU career record holder in batting average and holds the single-season record in hits. He helped the MBU baseball program to the NAIA Opening Round in 2014 and 2015, earning the AMC Player of the Year award in both seasons as well as a pair of selections to the NAIA All-America First Team and a runner-up finish in the NAIA Player of the Year voting in 2015.
 
He finished his career in MBU's top 10 in career RBI, HRs, and hits as well as single-season home runs (2nd), RBI (8th and 9th), batting average (7th), and slugging percentage (9th).
 
Olivera was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 38th round of the 2015 MLB June Amateur Draft and spent two years in the minor league system.
 
Hall of Fame Ceremony
The MBU Athletics Hall of Fame Ceremony will be held on Friday, Oct. 25 in the Carl & Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex on the campus of Missouri Baptist University. The inductee reception will begin at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 5:30 p.m., and the induction ceremony at 6:15 p.m.
