Volcic, Lockett Lead Spartans at Falcon Open With Third Place Finishes

PARK CITY, Kan.: The Missouri Baptist Men's wrestling team started its away campaign at the Falcon Open, capturing two third-place finishes, among other standout results.

For the Spartans, Jared Volcic, a transfer from Northwest Kansas Tech, started the day hot, claiming two pins in under two and a half minutes in the amateur division at the 285-pound weight class, advancing him into the quarterfinals where he controlled the match and won with a 7-2 decision Marcel Gonzalez of Pratt Community College. Volcic fell in the semifinal bout in a 6-2 decision to Gabe Kant of Labette Community College. Volcic finished 3rd, with a 5-1 record on the day.

Leviticus Lockett, the freshman from Jerome, Idaho, debuted in the navy and gray, claiming a third-place finish in the 184-pound weight class in the amateur division. Lockett outscored his opponents 37-15 in his first three bouts, leading to a semifinal appearance, but fell to Rodney Trotter of Labette Community College en route to a 5-1 record.

Joel Campbell lead the pack for the elite division competitors.  The New Plymouth, Idaho native had his fair share of mat time in the 174-pound weight class, claiming five victories, four of which went the full seven minutes. Campbell started the day with a 5-3 decision over his opponent from Morningside (Iowa) before falling in his second-round bout.  Campbell went on a four-match tear through the consolation bracket before falling short in the consolation-semifinal round.

Other standout performances for the Spartans include John Davis at 125 pounds in the amateur division, who finished 5-1 on the day with two pins, two tech falls, and a decision before hitting his match limit.
