CRETE, NE.- Two Missouri Baptist men's wrestling team members,
Daryl Mills and
Geno Cardenas, placed at the Conner Oppenheim Open hosted by Doane University.
Mills was the highest place for the Spartans, as he claimed third place in the open division at 133 pounds. Mills took a tough loss in the second round and fought back through six rounds on the consolation side of the bracket to have the bronze finish. Mills picked up a technical fall, a major decision, and two decisions for the day.
The only other placer for MBU was Cardenas, who appeared in third place in the amateur division at 141. Cardenas started the day off hot with three consecutive wins, where he outscored his opponents 37-5. Cardenas fell in the semifinal round before taking a match and finished fourth at the weight.
Spartan upper weights also had themselves, as
Amad Soufi and
Braeden Stotts went 4-2 on the day. Soufi picked up a fall, while Stotts picked up a major decision.
Brandon Bollinger,
Leonides Ruvalcaba,
Blake Johnson, and
Jared Volcic also won three.
The men's wrestling squad will hit the mats again at the Eagle Duals hosted by Avila University. Wrestling starts at 11 a.m.
