MBU Overwhelms UHSP With Scoring Onslaught

St. Louis- MBU wrapped up their six-game road stint against UHSP last night (Feb 13). The Spartans came out ready to get back in the win column, beating the Hornets for the second time this season. In a similar fashion to their first matchup, MBU came away with an overwhelming victory with a 32 point difference.

It was a close first couple minutes of the game with UHSP managing to stick closely behind the Spartans. Six minutes in the game was tied 11-11. This marked the turning point for MBU. After UHSP almost took the lead, the Spartans decided to kick it into high gear. Mujtaba Alkhaldi started things off with a layup after pulling some moves to find his shot down on the block.

The Spartans continued to rack up the points with Alkhaldi sinking another layup. A big play came soon after when the Spartans secured the defensive rebound and took off down the court. Evan Palmquist received the ball at half court and took it up the floor where he fed it to a wide-open Nico Hill. The Opunake, New Zealand native used his momentum to launch himself into the air where he slammed down a dunk. That played essentially set the tone for the rest of the game as MBU continued to dominate the game.

A number of Spartans were putting up points in the first half, securing MBU the 53-33 lead. Both Breven McMullen and Mujtaba Alkhaldi had already found themselves in the double-digit point range with multiple Spartans not far behind.

The Spartans walked into the second half with their 20-point lead and only increased it from there. Five minutes in, MBU broke into the 30-point lead range on a layup from Courtland Soll. After Evan Palmquist poked away the ball from his man, he took it up the court going two on one with Soll. Palmquist proceeded to dump the ball to his fellow guard who then went in and scored the layup.

With seven minutes left in the game the Spartans found themselves with triple digits on a free throw by Kristian Davis. After Palmquist managed to get his hand on a pass, Davis collected the ball and took it coast to coast where he was fouled going in for the layup. The sophomore knocked down one of his free throws, bringing the Spartans to 100 points. MBU continued to control the game, ending things on top 115-83.

There were a number of players who put up double digits on the scoreboard. Breven McMullen remained a steady scorer all game, knocking down a total of 21 points. Keyyaun Batchman was a basket behind with 19 points. Mujtaba Alkhaldi and Courtland Soll had 14 and 13 points respectively while Nico Hill and Evan Palmquist were a step behind with 12 points.

The Spartans will finally be back at home tomorrow (Feb 15) against Harris-Stowe. They will be taking on the Hornets starting at 7:30 PM.
