Fulton, Mo. - Missouri Baptist found themselves up against William Woods yesterday (Feb 3). Coming off a recent loss to Central Baptist College, the Spartans were eager to return to the winning column. Despite their best efforts, MBU was unable to secure the victory, dropping the game 70-47.
It was a rocky first half for the Spartans.
D'Mari Wiltz put up the first two points for MBU almost a minute into the game, but then they went on a scoring drought for the next couple of minutes. With Woods racking up the points, the Spartans soon found themselves with a ten-point deficit.
Connor Redrow broke the Spartans' drought with a free throw, but MBU still struggled to put points on the board.
MBU finally broke into the double-digit point range at the 12-minute mark when
Evan Palmquist went on the attack. The junior was on a fast break but was fouled going in for the layup and was sent to the free-throw line. Palmquist proceeded to knock down both free throws, bringing the score to 10-20.
With the Spartans struggling to score, they ended the half down by 14. Unfortunately, the second half went much like the first. The Spartans made shots here and there but were never able to go on the run needed to secure the lead.
The start of the half was the best opportunity the Spartans had to close the gap. A three-pointer from Redrow and a free throw from
Nico Hill brought it down to a ten-point game, but the Spartans weren't able to build up their momentum. Soon after, WWU would again start to extend their lead, and MBU was unable to put a stop to it.
With the Spartans only making 15 of 51 shots in the game, they lost their second game in a row.
Keyyaun Batchman and
Evan Palmquist were the two Spartans to put up double digits in the game. Batchman knocked down 11 points while Palmquist was a step behind with 10. MBU will be looking for redemption in the next game against Columbia College. They will be going up against the Cougars in rival territory next Thursday (Feb 8).
