Adams, Yarger Power Spartans to Tenth Straight Win

SAINT LOUIS – Alex Adams and Blayne Yarger both powered up for multiple-homer games as the Missouri Baptist University Spartans extended their winning streak to ten games on Saturday with a 15-5 over Harris-Stowe State University. MBU swept all three games of the weekend series.

Yarger had only two hits in the game but made the most of both. He connected on a second inning three-run homer and a seventh inning two-run job to account for his only two hits and all five of his RBIs. For Adams, he hit solo home runs in the second, fourth, and seventh innings, for his eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth of the season to lead MBU in that category. It's the second multi-homer game of the year for Adams, joining his four home run effort on March 9 against St. Ambrose University. Yarger and Adams went back-to-back in the second and seventh innings. Adams finished the day with three hits in four at bats with three RBIs and four funs scored. Blane Besse and Cole Robinson joined Adams with three hits in the game. Robinson counted a sixth inning two-run homer among his contributions. The first four batters in the Spartans lineup, Besse, Yarger, Adams, and Robinson, were responsible for 11 of the Spartans 17 hits.

Jackson Wells got the start for MBU and kept things in check on the mound. He is now 5-1 on the year after throwing five innings allowing two runs on eight hits with two walks and four strikeouts. His ERA now sits at 2.61 through 38 innings across eight appearances. Greg Ryun and Skout Rallo pitched an inning each to finish out the game on Saturday.

During their current 10 game winning streak, the Spartans have scored 159 runs while giving up just 36. Saturday marked the sixth consecutive nine-inning game that MBU has ended early due to the "mercy rule."

They will look to keep the winning streak alive when they travel to New Albany, Ind. on Tuesday for a doubleheader against Indiana University Southeast.
