SAINT LOUIS – Due to some challenges with conditions at their home field, the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy Eutectics (Mo.) moved their home games with MBU to Spartan Baseball Field on Wednesday. At least for one day it appears they are trying to find their footing. The Spartans offense was aided considerably by eight errors committed by the Eutectics in MBU's 12-4 win.
The Spartans scored runs in all but three of the nine innings, leading comfortably throughout. MBU, who as the visiting team were batting in the top of the inning, jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two and a half innings, then led 8-3 after five. They continued to pad the lead with four more runs in the seventh and eighth innings before UHSP got one run back in the bottom of the ninth for 12-4 final.
Spartans' starter
Teague Robertson got the win to go 8-0 on the season by lasting five innings, giving up three runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and two walks.
Greg Ryun relieved Robertson and pitched the remaining four innings and only giving up one run on four hits. He struck out three and walked one.
MBU shortstop
Alex Adams had three hits in five at bats, with an RBI and two runs scored. Centerfielder
Blayne Yarger continued his torrid stretch by connecting on a solo home run in the third inning. That is home run number 22 for the senior from Rolla, Mo., placing him in a fourth-place tie in the NAIA.
DJ Schmidt,
Cole Robinson, and
Blane Besse also collected two hits.
The Eutectics and the Spartans will play a doubleheader on Thursday to finish out American Midwest Conference play and the regular season. The games get underway at Spartan Baseball Field at 12:00 p.m.
