MARSHALL, Mo.- Four Spartans placed at the Missouri Valley Open, hosted by Missouri Valley College this Saturday.
John Davis,
Geno Cardenas,
Nicholas Keim, and
Noah Richardson all finished sixth place in their brackets.
At 125, Davis took the first three rounds by storm, as he picked up three falls en route to the semifinals. Davis got a first, second, and third-round pin before he dropped and picked up sixth place.
Missouri Baptist's other semifinalist came as Nick Keim also rolled through his first few rounds. Keim pinned two opponents; one wrestled unattached and another from the host school Missouri Valley. Both of Keim's falls were also in the first period.
Cardenas' path to the fifth-place bout was a little different. After he rattled off two wins to get to the quarterfinals, Cardenas fell to a wrestler from Missouri Valley College. Cardenas battled through two consolation rounds, where he collected another pair of falls before he hit his match limit in the fifth-place match.
The Eureka, Mo. native pinned his opponent in the first round but dropped a narrow 4-0 decision in the second round. Richardson knocked off four wrestlers in consolation before he hit his match limit for the day as he finished 4-1 on the day.
Other standout performances for the Spartans include
Brayden Eikermann, who finished 4-2, where he boasted three falls, Jake Sinn, who went 3-2 on the day with two falls,
Hunter Song, who went 3-2 on the day with two technical falls, and Braden Stotts who went 3-2 on the day.
The Spartans travel north to No. 1 Grandview in Des Moines, Iowa,, to compete in the Grandview Duals next Saturday,, February 8, 2025. The first dual will commence at 11 a.m.
