OAKLAND CITY, Ind. — Missouri Baptist University men's tennis earned a 4–2 victory, while the Spartan women dropped a 4–2 decision at Oakland City on Friday.
The MBU men improved to 16–4 on the season with the win, overcoming an early deficit after dropping the doubles point. Oakland City secured wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, while Ruslan Anurev and Omar Farahat picked up a 7–6 victory at No. 3.
Missouri Baptist responded in singles play, winning four matches to clinch the team result. Luca Ebenriter led the charge with a 7–5, 6–2 win at No. 1, while Sebastian Junghanns followed with a 6–3, 6–4 victory at No. 3. Anurev battled through a three-set match at No. 4, earning a 6–4, 2–6, 7–5 win, and Arkhip Tokmakov sealed the victory with a 7–5, 6–4 decision at No. 5. The No. 6 match featuring Nicolas Sanchez went unfinished.
On the women's side, Missouri Baptist fell to 9–9 overall despite a strong showing in doubles. The Spartans claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3, as Mariana Azevedo and Lucia Rubio earned a 6–4 victory, while Jocelynn Carmody and Bissola Lassissi added a 6–3 win.
In singles play, Oakland City rallied with four victories to secure the match. Melissa Jangarasheva provided a highlight for MBU with a straight-set win at No. 5, 7–5, 6–3, but the Spartans were unable to find additional points as the Oaks claimed courts one, two, three and six to close out the 4–2 result.
