MCKENZIE, Tenn. — Missouri Baptist University men's and women's tennis dropped matches to Georgia Gwinnett on Tuesday, as the Spartan men fell 7–0 and the women suffered a 5–2 setback.
The losses move the Missouri Baptist men to 17–6 on the season, while the women fall to 9–12 overall.
On the men's side, Missouri Baptist was unable to gain momentum against a strong Georgia Gwinnett squad, dropping the doubles point after losses at all three positions. The duo of Luca Ebenriter and Sebastian Junghanns fell 6–2 at No. 1, while the Spartans also dropped decisions at No. 2 and No. 3.
In singles play, Georgia Gwinnett secured the match by winning all six courts in straight sets. Ebenriter dropped a 6–2, 6–2 decision at No. 1, while Junghanns fell 6–3, 6–2 at No. 2. Strahinja Radanovic (No. 3) and Ruslan Anurev (No. 4) also came up short in straight sets.
Arkhip Tokmakov battled at No. 5, pushing his opponent in both sets before falling 7–6, 6–4, while Nicolas Sanchez rounded out the lineup at No. 6 with a 6–1, 7–5 defeat.
On the women's side, Missouri Baptist picked up an early win at No. 3 doubles via forfeit, but Georgia Gwinnett claimed the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 2.
In singles play, the Spartans earned two points, highlighted by a win at No. 6 by Melissa Jangarasheva via forfeit. Mariana Azevedo delivered the other victory in a hard-fought three-set match at No. 5, rallying for a 3–6, 6–3, 10–7 win.
Georgia Gwinnett secured the team victory by claiming the remaining four singles matches in straight sets, including wins at the top four positions to clinch the 5–2 result.
