Mark Sissom was named head coach of the Missouri Baptist University men's track & field and cross country teams in July of 2012. While at MBU, Sissom has coached 21 NAIA All-Americans in indoor and outdoor track & field along with several Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
Between competing and coaching, Coach Sissom has been involved in the sport of track & field for over 50 years. He has a passion for coaching, emphasizing the importance of good and clear communication, hard work, as well as respect for teammates, fellow competitors, meet officials, and coaches.
Aside from his collegiate coaching experience, Sissom coached several years at the high school level. In 1993, Sissom became the Head Boys Track & Field Coach at Lafayette High School. During his 11 years as head coach, his teams won the Suburban West Conference title eight times, MSHSAA Districts seven times, placed in the top four at the MSHSAA State Track & Field meet three times and finished state runner-up in 1996. Sissom coached four student-athletes who were crowned individual state champions for Lafayette.
As an athlete, Coach Sissom was a Shot Put, Discus and Javelin thrower at Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State University). At one time, Sissom held both the discus and javelin school records at NMSU and was an NCAA Division II All-American in discuss (1977). His javelin record still stands at NMSU, which he has held the top spot for 40+ years now.
Coach Sissom has a Master of Education in Secondary Administration / Advanced Certificate from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, a Master of Art in Physical Education from Northeast Missouri State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Education, Physical Education/Health K-12 from Northeast Missouri State University.
