WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL PILES UP WINS

The MBU women's volleyball team picked up several wins last week, to move above the .500 mark once again. After a week's record of 6 wins and 1 loss, the Lady Spartans are now 17-16 overall, 7-5 in the American Midwest Conference.

The Lady Spartans opened the week with two quick AMC wins over Harris-Stowe State University at HSSU on Tuesday. MBU took game one 25-11, 25-13, 25-12 and game two 25-10, 25-15, 25-15. The Yellow Jackets dropped to 0-13 in the AMC, 0-23 overall. The Lady Spartans faced a much bigger challenge on Thursday in AMC rival McKendree University. The Lady Bearcats were out for revenge from an earlier loss to the Lady Spartans in September. McKendree got that revenge, as they handled MBU in three games; 26-24, 25-13, 25-12.

The Lady Spartans bounced back from Thursday's loss to take four victories home from the Lindenwood Volleyball Classic in St. Charles, Mo. MBU beat Friends University in four games and Culver-Stockton College in five games on Friday. They again battled for five games to take the match from Graceland University on Saturday, and handled William Jewell College in three games in the final match of the weekend.

The Lady Spartans are currently in fifth place in the American Midwest Conference. That position could still swing up several spots, as MBU has four more conference matches in the next two weeks. The first and only two matches this week will be at AMC opponent Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. The Lady Eagles current sit one spot ahead of MBU in the AMC, with a 5-3 conference record.
