LADY SPARTANS IMPROVE TO 4-4 IN AMC

The Lady Spartans won two out of three games last week, capped off with a thrilling overtime victory over conference rival Hannibal-LaGrange College.  MBU improves to 12-8 on the season and 4-4 in the American Midwest Conference.

The Lady Spartans started the long week on Tuesday, January 26th with a trip to Kansas City to face AMC foe, Park University.  MBU came out firing en route to an 86-57 victory. In the win, MBU was led by Ashley Johnson's 24 points, 12 rebounds & 7 steals. Jessica Moore & Andrea Seabaugh poured in 20 points & 18 points respectively & Danielle Williams chipped in 10 points for the Lady Spartans. MBU out-rebounded Park 46-36 in the contest.

On Thursday, MBU traveled to the NAIA's 19th ranked William Woods University in an AMC match-up. MBU got in foul trouble early & never recovered, going on to see an 85-70 loss. The Lady Spartans had no answer for William Woods All-American, Rachel Baker, who led her team to their 18th victory on the season with 28 points, 17 rebounds, and nine assists. MBU got its best production from Jessica Moore who led all scores with 29 points. Moore also grabbed 11 rebounds in the contest.

On Saturday, the Lady Spartans concluded their long week of play with an emotional 69-60 win over AMC rival HLG in their annual Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers game.

MBU led the contest 29-24 at the half and saw their lead increase to as many as 10 points in the second half. However, the Lady Trojans hit some key three-point shots and got necessary defensive stops to pull the score even. HLG had the ball and a 54-54 tie with 20 seconds remaining in regulation, but Andrea Seabaugh forced overtime with a defensive steal for the Lady Spartans. Her half-court attempt for the win in regulation fell short.

MBU went on to out-score HLG in overtime play 15-6 for the win. MBU was led by Jessica Moore's 25 points and 13 rebounds. Andrea Seabaugh added 22 points & seven rebounds for MBU and Tammy Thomas chipped in 12 points for the Lady Spartans.

MBU will return to action on Thursday, February 4th when they host Park University at 5:30 p.m.  The Lady Spartans then travel to Stephens College on Saturday, February 6th for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
