The MBU men's wrestling team hosted its first home dual meet since November and won big over Hannibal-LaGrange College on Tuesday night. The Spartans outscored the Trojans 41-9.
Four Spartan wins came by forfeit. In action on the mats, the Spartan grapplers went 4-3. At 141, senior
Anton Prater won by tech fall over Zach Fish, 23-8. Prater scored 10 takedowns, one escape, and one 2-point nearfall. Fish's points all came off escapes. At 149, HLG's Kasey Cates got a 9-5 decision over MBU junior
Sam Kassing. MBU was again victorious at 157, with senior
Gerald Harris winning by fall over HLG's Josh Smith. Harris secured the fall at 2:45 in the first period. Freshman
Gavilan Bland (174) and sophomore
Justin Jenkins (184) each lost, with HLG's Nathan Downs taking a 3-2 decision over Bland, and Jobi Hambrick taking a 6-5 decision over Jenkins. MBU's final win was at 197, with senior
Clayton Olsson winning by fall over Shane Brandl. Olsson quickly scored the fall at 1:14 in the first period.
The Spartans will now travel to Marshall, Mo. for the Missouri Valley Open on Saturday, February 6th.
