VOLLEYBALL TO HOST FIRST HOME GAME ON THURSDAY

After a 3-8 start, the Missouri Baptist University women's volleyball team will look to improve upon their record and make an early mark in American Midwest Conference play this Thursday. They will host Park University in their first home match of the year.
The Lady Spartans (3-8), defeated the Park Pirates (8-4) in three games during both meetings last season, which was Park's first as a member of the American Midwest Conference. MBU will be looking to earn its first AMC win this season, after losing to defending AMC Champion Columbia College in 3 sets on Monday.
Thursday's match will open what is to be the final year for volleyball competition in Muncy Gymnasium, as the new Spartan Sports and Recreation Complex is scheduled to open in time for the 2011 season.
Thursday's fans will get to see Lady Spartan newcomers Casey Chernin and Laura King in action. The MBU offense has been sparked by 6'3" SLU transfer Casey Chernin at the net, as she averages a team high 3.5 kills per game from the outside. Laura King, a freshman setter from St. Louis (Ursuline Academy), has been learning the college game, averaging just under 9 assists per game. She has also served up 8 aces already this season.
Returning First Team All-Conference middle blockers Jessica Bowman and Megan Moore are sure to contribute as well.
Match time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
