Mayfield, Ky. - Missouri Baptist University men's basketball took care of business in its first action of the season, beating the Mid Continent Cougars 92-85 on Tuesday night.
Looking to turn heads after a fifth-place, pre-season ranking in the American Midwest Conference, the Spartans made a statement in the first game of the season. Junior guard Dezmon Hickman led the way for MBU in a big way. The Collinsville, Ill. native recorded a double-double in his first action of the season with a 29 point, 13 rebound performance.
Hickman's game was not the only impressive one on the evening, however. Senior guard Kyle Ford also recorded a double-double, finishing with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Ford, a 6'6" guard is a senior this season and looks to be one of the top contributors for the team.
Also adding to the offensive firepower this evening for the Spartans was sophomore guard, Kalvin Lewis. The 6'1" Houston, Texas native recorded 20 points and five assists for the game.
Missouri Baptist also got the job done on the boards. The team out-rebounded the Cougars 48-25 en-route to the victory.
The Spartans start the season 1-0 and will look to make it two in a row this Saturday as it takes on Evangel University at home over homecoming weekend.
