Clinton, Iowa - The Missouri Baptist women's basketball team headed to Ashford University looking to get their first win on the season. The team dominated on the road against the Saints winning 65-46.
In the first half, the Spartans played strong defense while getting out to a fast 10-3 lead. Ashford was forced to take a timeout to slow Missouri Baptist's offense. However, the team continued its hot shooting jumping out to a 15-3 lead.
The Spartans extended their lead to 21-9 after forcing Ashford to make several turnovers. It was all Missouri Baptist the rest of the half as they led 29-16. Leading scorer for the Spartans was Mandy Kirby with six points, five rebounds and four assists. There were five other team members who each had four points. MBU shot 42% from the field and was able to force 17 turnovers.
In the second half, the Saints got back into the game with a 5-0 run to make it 29-21. The Spartans added a run of their own going on an 8-0 extending their lead to 37-21. Ashford was able to narrow the lead down to 11, but the Spartans wouldn't let the Saints get any closer as the team went onto win 65-46.
The team shot 51% from the field in the second half and shot 57% from three point range.
MBU's Andrea Seabaugh led the team in points with 16, with 12 of them coming in the second half. Mandy Kirby added 12 points and six steals and Janelle Hensold added 10 points.
The team's record moves to 1-2 and will look for another road victory when they head to Roosevelt University on November 19th at 1:00 p.m.
