Parkville, Mo.- The Missouri Baptist men's soccer team looking to move into the semifinals headed to Park University in the first round of the American Midwest Conference. The team did what they could against Park but fell 2-1.
The Spartans went into this game knowing that they had to grab the early momentum on the road against a tough Pirate team. The game was very defensive minded as both teams were not allowing many shots on goal. Park's Robert Palmer was able to score off a corner kick in the 37th minute to make it 1-0. Missouri Baptist was outshot in the first half 6-4.
In the second half the defensive minded game continued. The Pirates were able to add to their lead to make it 2-0 on a goal by Ja-ir Gooden in the 55th minute. The Spartans didn't give up as four minutes later
Oscar Rojas scored to make it 2-1, getting the team back into the game.
MBU picked up its offensive pressure and almost evened the score near the end of the game but came up short in the end.
The Spartans were outshot in the game 16-6. MBU's
Nemanja Pandzic made four saves on the day.
The team's season ends with a record of 2-15-1, while in the AMC their record was 2-6.
