St. Louis, Mo.- The Missouri Baptist women's basketball team were looking to end their two game losing streak and get a win before Christmas. After leading at the half, the Spartans held off Missouri Valley College for the 49-46 win.
The first half for both teams started out with cold shooting. The Spartans were able to find their stroke near the end of the first half. After grabbing a 19-14 lead with five minutes to go the team started getting some breathing room.
Missouri Baptist was able to stretch their lead out to eight with three minutes to go after a
Andrea Seabaugh three pointer. The Vikings continued to fight back but the Spartans held them off leading 28-19 at the half.
The team won on the stat sheet as well. MBU out-rebounded the Vikings 25-21 and forced nine turnovers. Andrea Seabaugh led the way for the Spartans with eight points.
In the second half, MVC got back into the game rather quickly. The Vikings went on a 11-0 run to take a 30-28 lead with 15 minutes left. Sara Woodgeard put the Spartans up 32-30 after a two point basket. The team never relinquished that lead.
With seven minutes left Missouri Valley was only down 40-39. However, the Spartans continued to cool down the Vikings when their shooting got hot and Missouri Baptist held on for the win.
The Spartans forced 19 turnovers in the game and out-rebounded the Vikings 44-41. The team got 17 points off the bench from Sara Woodgeard. Also, having a good game was Andrea Seabaugh with 13 points and Chelsea Prosser led the team in rebounds with 11. Missouri Valley's leading scorer was Cara Clark with 17 and Lindsi Jackson had a team high 10 rebounds.
The Spartans record moves to 6-6 and have a long layoff before the team plays in the Pizza Ranch Classic against Dordt College on December 28th at 4:00 p.m.
